Yes, you heard right there is a village in Haldwani City named Chhoti Haldwani. The village was founded by Jim Corbett in 1915. Although Jim Corbett was born in Nainital on 25 July 1875.
About Jim Corbett
Jim Corbett was 6 years old when his father died. From an early age, he became very attached to the forest and wildlife. Because of his attachment to wildlife, he recognizes animals and birds by their voice. As Jim Corbett grew older, he became a very good hunter and fabulous naturalist.
The first tiger he killed, was responsible for the death of 400 Humans. It believed he has killed 31 tigers and 2 leopards in his life. Local peoples also say that he only kills man-eater tigers.
Jim Corbett had a lot of love for the people of the village. By the time of his death, Corbett used to send Lagaan to the villagers. He died on April 19, 1955. After his death, his sister Maggi also sent a lease for a considerable amount of time.
About Chhoti Haldwani
Jim Corbett bought 221 acres in Haldwani for Rs 1500. He wanted to develop this place into the modern village. Corbett settled 40 families here and taught them farming.
He brought them maize and gram seeds from Africa for them. Around 1925, Jim Corbett made a 5-foot tall and 5-feet-high wall around the villages to protect people and crops from their wild animals.
In November 1947 Corbett sold his home to Kalawati Verma and went to Kenya with his sister. Later this house was turned into a museum and now it is known as Jimm Corbett museum.
There is a place in the middle of the villages where Corbett used to sit with the villagers and according to his experiments, he used to tell how to save the Tigers.
The village is now ECO Village manage by Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti. The Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti has done so many hard works to turn this forgotten village to a well-known tourist place. The Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti keeping alive the great legacy of Jim Corbett.
Chhoti Haldwani Village is a perfect example of how animals and humans can live closely without disturbing each other.
Peoples of the village say that they don’t have to kill wildlife for protection Carpet sahib’s (Corbett) wall is enough to secure there sleep at nights.

Lesser Fish Eagle, Spot-bellied Eagle Owl, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Ibisbill, Wallcreeper, Hodgson’s Bushchat are some bird species you can see here.

- Film Club
Every Sunday, the Simiti shows the film on the subject of environmental and environmental change. It is an attempt by the Committee to make people aware of the environment and wildlife through films so that they can understand the importance of the environment and wildlife.
