Located near Ukhimath, Deoria Tal is a beautiful lake. The lake is situated at 7, 841 feet height and its surrounded by green forest. The 1000-year-old Tungnath Temple is The highest Temple of Lord Shiva in the world. The temple is situated at an elevation of 3,680mts above sea level. According to Hindu mythology, the Pandavas were guilty of killing his own brothers in the battle of Mahabharata. Then Vyasa Rishi told Pandavas that Only Lord Shiva can give them expiate from this sin. Then Pandava began to seek Lord Shiva for the forgiveness of their sins. Because Pandavas was guilty, therefore Lord Shiva did not want to meet them, So he started hiding from them.
To hide from the Pandavas, Lord Shiva took the form of a bull and took refuge underground at Guptkashi. Pandavas could not find Lord Shiva but, later they find Shiva’s body in the form of bull’s body in five different places. Then Pandavas built Shiva Temple in those five places. Tungnath is the place where bulls hands (bahu) were seen. The weather of Tungnath is 22-45°C in Summers and 0-23°C in Winters, the Best time to visit Tungnath Temple is from March to October.
