The beginning of the Chipko movement was to prevent deforestation. This movement was a nonviolent movement that started by Chandi Prasad Bhatt, Sunderlal Bahuguna and some women of Mandal village.

This movement was highly appreciated all over the world, This was the first time that some villagers had organized such a kind of movement to save the environment, trees. Women played a very important role in this movement.

Women played a very important role in this movement. Because of the women, this movement has spread throughout the entire Himalayan region. The movement saved thousands of trees from the cutting.

Because of the agitation, a 15-year ban was imposed on the cutting of green trees.

Nanda Devi mountain also has great importance in Hindu religion. Nanda Devi Nation Park was inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

Tehri dam is built in Bhagirathi river and is India’s highest dam and 2nd highest dam in Asia and 8th highest dam in the World. Construction of Tehri Dame was started in 1978 and the first phase was completed in 2006.

Tehri Dam emits 2400 megawatt of electricity. So far, 8000 / – crores have been spent on the construction of Tehri Dam.
