If you think of Jaipur, then the first name comes to your mind its, Hawa Mahal “Palace of Winds“. The Palace has been ranked as the most important place to visit in Jaipur. Hawa Mahal is famous for its unique texture.
Hawa Mahal derives its name from its 953 windows and design. If your an art and history lover then must love to visit Hawa Mahal.
The Palace is located in Badi Choupad, Kanwar Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Mahal was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. The Hawa Mahal is also a part of the City Palace. The Palace was built in such a way that the palace was remained cool in the summer and the women’s inside the mahal could see the activities outside.
The Hawa Mahal was Design by Lal Chand Ustad, the Mahal is built in Rajput architecture style and Mughal architecture. At that time, the women’s of the Royal family was not allowed to come in front of the people without Veil.
At that time, the woman of the Rajput family was not allowed to without a Veil On the face in front of the people. So, king, Sawai Pratap Singh thought of constructing a palace, so that the women of the royal family could see the events and festivals outside of the palace without appearing in front of the public.
King Sawai Pratap Singh was a devotee of Lord Krishna, then to honor Lord Krishna he told Lal Chand Ustad to design the Palace like Lord Krishna’s crown. Sawai Pratap Singh was also inspired by Architecture of Khetri Mahal, so he wanted to build a palace whose is much better than from the Khetri Mahal.
The Palace has 5 floors and it has 953 beautiful windows which called jharokha also. From outside the Hawa Mahal looks like a honeycomb. These 953 windows help in keeping the palace cool in summer because these windows allow cool wind to come inside the Mahal easily.
The height of The Hawa Maha is 50 feet. The Palace is made of Lime and red and pink sandstone. There are no stairs in the palace, you can reach the top through the ramps.
The view of the palace from the street it’s actually the backside of the Palace. The front side it’s totally different from the backside of the palace. You see the beauty of Rajput architecture style and Mughal architecture on the front side of the palace.
For example, the fascinating work of domed ceilings and flower leaves describe the beauty of the Rajput architecture. And the dotted on the stone, Mehra is a classic example of Mughal architecture.
